It will always be "Unwritten" until you write it yourself.

Dear Beautiful Girl,

I just discovered that you love the song “Unwritten” by Natasha Bedingfield. You know how I know this fact? When it comes on the radio, your face lights up like a Christmas tree and you boogie oogie oogie ‘till you just can’t boogie no more. The other day, we were driving to my second favorite place on earth (We already hit my first favorite place) and the song came on the radio. Your face lit up and I melted on cue. I promised you that we’d buy the CD and you reminded me of that fact repeatedly until we did.
We listened to the entire CD (not bad) and danced to your favorite song in your room that night and I got ‘ta thinkin’. What an appropriate song! So, I decided to dedicate it to my little girl here in this post. One day, you will be able to read this and remember the joy that song brought to you at such a young age and how true the lyrics really are. I hope you can learn from it.
I am unwritten, can't read my mind, I'm undefined
I'm just beginning, the pen's in my hand, ending unplanned
Fa, you are so young and you have your whole, entire life ahead of you. You have the ability to take it anywhere you dream. Be strong and follow your heart.
Staring at the blank page before you
Open up the dirty window
Let the sun illuminate the words that you could not find

You’re just beginning your journey…Use what life gives you to benefit your heart and soul. Take energy from that sunlight and let it guide you to your dreams.
Reaching for something in the distance
So close you can almost taste it
Release your inhibitions…

Never feel like you can not do it. You can do anything you set your mind to. Never feel “not good enough” and never feel alone because that is just not true…You have your Mamma. You are an amazing little lady with charisma and charm and you have an intelligence that is older than your years.
Feel the rain on your skin
No one else can feel it for you
Only you can let it in
No one else, no one else
Can speak the words on your lips
Drench yourself in words unspoken
Live your life with arms wide open
Today is where your book begins
The rest is still unwritten
Oh, oh, oh
Fa, you love when this verse blasts on the radio…You stop and wait for it to come on...take that energy it gives you and listen to the words…”No one else can speak the words on your lips”… No one can tell you how to live; you have the power to live your own life any way you please. Stay strong and stand your ground. Never give up or feel like you can’t handle anything! I have your back forever. "Live your life with arms wide open" accept everything and everyone that comes your way, the experiences will enrich you.

I break tradition, sometimes my tries, are outside the lines
We've been conditioned to not make mistakes, but I can't live that way

You never have to worry about making mistakes. I would never judge you. I will always support you and help you learn from them. They are your strongest, most prevalent teachers…You learn from the mistakes you make and you grow from the knowledge you gain from them.

Now dance your little coolie off…
Staring at the blank page before you
Open up the dirty window
Let the sun illuminate the words that you could not find

Reaching for something in the distance
So close you can almost taste it
Release your inhibitions
Feel the rain on your skin
No one else can feel it for you
Only you can let it in
No one else, no one else
Can speak the words on your lips
Drench yourself in words unspoken
Live your life with arms wide open
Today is where your book begins

Feel the rain on your skin
No one else can feel it for you
Only you can let it in
No one else, no one else
Can speak the words on your lips
Drench yourself in words unspoken
Live your life with arms wide open
Today is where your book begins
The rest is still unwritten
The rest is still unwritten
The rest is still unwritten

Always remember that I will be there (if you need me) to help you write your unwritten lyrics.
I just know you will do great things in your life. I can't wait to witness them all.
I still can’t believe that out of all the little girls in the world, I got the very best one!
I love you forever,
Mamma

In a more consumerist version of the same adorable theme, my son lights up and sings along whenever the minivan commercial comes on that features The Who's "Magic Bus". "It's my song," he cries with joy, "riiiide the magic bus!" Must download it for him.
